Spring is here!

SPRING HAS SPRUNG What a refreshing time of year. I love how nature wakes up after a long winters nap. My backyard is starting to come alive again! My flowers are blooming and are so beautiful. I love to watch the birds as they splash in the birdbath or nestle down in the warm dirt for a "dirt bath". My husband and I have been researching on how to attract butterflies and different types of birds to the yard, and so far it is working. We have planted flowers that attract birds, honey bees, and butterflies and have been serving different kinds of seeds and goodies in the bird feeders. I am getting familiar with my new camera and am having so much fun trying to capture all this activity. Gardening is a love of mine and it has been so enjoyable sharing it with my family.

I also have planted herbs in my raised herb garden. I am growing Oregano, Sweet Basil, Cilantro, Rosemary, Chives, Garlic, Mint and of course French Lavender. I found these cute little name stakes and gave them a touch of cream paint with little brown to make them look weathered. I am going to harvest and dry more herbs this year as it is wonderful to cook with them. If our tomato plants do good we will have all the ingredients to make homemade SALSA!

If you also love the outdoors then why not enlarge your living space and create a backyard that you can enjoy. Gardening is relaxing, it's fun and it's good for your SOUL. Until next time.........

The kiss of the sun for pardon,

The song of the birds for mirth,

One is nearer God's heart in a garden

Than anywhere else on earth.

The New Year

The New year is here and....a new beginning. This year I am taking control of "My Life". I am going to surround myself with the people who love me, fill my mind with positive thoughts, fuel my body with healthy food, find a job I love using my talents, make goals, value myself, be a good friend, devoted mom, and loving wife, pray more and worry less, and somewhere in the process I have faith that I will find Joy in my heart.

I just love this time of year. It's a time to snuggle up for winter and reflect on the year that's past. I cherish my time at home when the house is all lit up with white lights and Christmas decorations, the smell of cinnamon and spices on the woodstove, hot cocoa and sitting down to a puzzle or a game with a loved one. It's a time to give thanks to all that is good in our lives, a time to remember how precious our family and friends are to us. There is no place I'd rather be at Christmas time than home.

Lodi Antique Street Faire

It's time for the Lodi Antique Street Faire....
I am headed off early tomorrow morning to the faire with my dear friend Jacqueline (country nest). The faire is held the first Sunday of May and October and I have been going now for about 4 years. We have such a wonderful time and the streets are loaded with vendors and sellers from all around. We start our journey about 6:30 a.m. with coffee and "wish lists" in hand as we talk the whole car ride there about what great treasures are waiting for us. After arriving in Lodi we like to start on School street which is mainly all antiques and after about 4 hours we take a break to eat lunch and then make our way down Church street where you can find more homemade boutique items. This year we decided to only take one cart , in the past we both would push our carts but the wheels of our carts kept getting tangled up together as one of us would make a mad dash to something that caught our eye. We learned early on, if you like something you had better hurry and get to it, put your hand on it while deciding if you want to buy it or someone will snatch it up from right under you. Having a good eye and being fast is very important and I must say 9 times out of 10 Jacqueline always beats me to it. ( I'm thinking maybe I should slip something in her coffee that would slow her down so I will have half a chance to get that one of a kind item. Ha Ha ) When our feet are just too tired or we are out of money ( usually the later)we head for home but only after visiting this wonderful candy/bakery shop on the corner. They have the best carmel apples around, and our kids Edward and Lindsey love us to bring them home a "goodie". Once home we of course unload and talk about our favorite find of the day. This faire comes twice a year and I am always looking forward to the next one. If you want more info you can go the city of Lodi's website at . Until the next time...." Happy Antiquing"

Autumn has arrived

Autumn has finally arrived..... I have to say that this is my favorite time of year. I just love watching all of the trees as the leaves turn beautiful warm colors. The crisp air feels so refreshing on your cheeks, and the smell of woodsmoke as the first fire is burning reminds me of home in the country. I have been watching my squirrel friends in the backyard as they scurry by with goodies they have found. They have decided to make a birdhouse we have placed up high in a tree their home. I too have been getting my home warm and cozy. Decorating is a love of mine, I've sprinkled a touch of fall throughout the house with garlands, pumpkins, and great candles of spiced pumpkin and mulling spices. I truly believe that the environment around us plays an important part of what kind of mood we're in. So all it takes is a little time and alot of creativity to make your home a wonderful place to be. Until the next time "Happy Nesting"
